C8. CALCULATING AMOUNT OF SUBSTANCE FROM MASS & MOLAR MASS
While the mole is the S.I. unit for amount of substance which chemists normally prefer, there are no routine devices that directly measure this physical quantity, i.e., in ‘moles’.
For this reason an amount of substance is usually calculated from other easily measured quantities such as mass or volume.
Once a molar mass (units: g / mol) has been obtained using tables of data, the procedure involved is facile.
